MEDITATION

Remember Meditation is not something that is done by the mind, It is the absence of the mind. When the mind stops meditation happens, it is not something out of the mind, it is something beyond the mind. OSHO

What is Meditation

MEDITATION is not concentration. In concentration there is a self concentrating and there is an object being concentrated upon. There is duality. In meditation there is nobody inside and nothing outside. It is not concentration . There is no division between the in and the out. The in goes on flowing into the out, the out goes on flowing into the in. The demarcation, the boundary, the border, no longer exists. The in is out, the out is in; it is a no-dual consciousness.

Meditation is not something that you do. It is, only when your doer has gone and you are totally relaxed and not doing anything, in a deep state of let-go, rest - there is meditation. Then meditation flowers. It is the flowering of your being. It has nothing to do with becoming. It is not an achievement, it is not an improvement; it is just being that which you already are.

I would like to give you two things: Roots into this earth and wings into the heaven. Meditation is the earth, it is here and now; the very moment you can spread your roots, do it. And once roots are there, your wings will reach the highest sky possible. Compassion is the sky, meditation is the earth, and when meditation and compassion meet, a Buddha is born.

"Remember, meditation will bring you more and more intelligence, infinite
intelligence, a radiant intelligence. Meditation will make you more alert
and sensitive.Your life will become richer."

A man lost a penny and was looking for it in a bush when he found a huge treasure.

He was not seeking for treasure but only for his lost penny.

In the same way, when you seek one thing you may get something else, and it may be

much greater than what you lost.................

The truth, or self, cannot be sought directly.

You have a very interesting question there Moriah but the answer is also not so simple to understand for you'll have to go deep inside yourself and not look at things from the surface. From the outer surface of it I feel Miss Alex Blach New Human New Earth gave you a very brilliant answer and thought you'll be satisfied by it but I find that you have a much deeper thirst for it then I thought. Since you have asked me to give you some answer I'll try to explain in brief.

If you feel that anybody can give an explanation to you in few lines and tomorrow morning you will find yourself detached - then please be assured it is not going to happen. There are no shortcuts to Detachment. True Detachment can only happen when your inner eyes open up to the truth, and this can only happen by awareness and consciousness and being a witness to everything. That does not mean that you are not attached to the other person or to detach yourself you have to run away from them. No not at all, the difference is only in the quality. The consciousness is within yourself which makes the detachment happen and not outside of you. The problem lies inside us and we keep looking for the solution in the outside world.

I'll tell you a short story - Few friends went to visit one of their friend in a remote village. It was a very small village and had no electricity. By the time they reached his small hut it was absolutely dark. They found their friend searching for something desperately in the light of a small lamp. The friend told them that he has dropped his golden ring and now couldn't find it, so they all started searching for it. After thorough search and without any trace of it they asked his friend where exactly he has dropped it. He said - Oh!! in the forest around 100 meters from here. Astonished they asked - then why are you searching here?? He said - because it is completely dark over there and the light is only in this hut, so I'm searching here.

So you see Moriah the problem lies somewhere else and people tries to find the solutions in entirely different places.

You must have seen a Lotus flower, The Lotus flower is born and bred in mud and water but it simply rises above it all. Now no mud or water can stick to it. It remains on the surface of the water but even if some water drops fall on the flower or its leaves they do not and cannot make it wet. The water is simply there unattached to the flower and just moves away and drops down to the surface from its own weight. Now you cannot say that the lotus is not attached to the mud and water because it has its stem inside and growing in it. It would not have grown if there would not have been mud and water but it still simply is not attached to it any more and has risen above it. That's detachment.

You ask me about Detachment but you will not be able to see it without the complete picture. "Detachment and Attachment" are the two faces of the same coin. You cannot have detachment on your own conditions. We want to be detached to the things we don't like but we also like to be attached to the things we like. we all want to be away from unhappiness and misery but we want to be full of happiness all the time. Enlightenment is staying in the middle of it remaining a witness to everything and not getting attached whether good or bad, without being judgmental to it. Then the Detachment happens. Only the bliss remains with no attachment to either side. Osho said: " Witness that you are not the body, Witness that you are not the mind, Witness that you are not the soul, Witness that you are only the Witness". Now you will do everything for the needed persons, love your loved ones, go around doing your job etc but you will not remain the same person anymore. Now inside yourself you will remain a witness seeing yourself doing it all, yet unattached to everything as if somebody else is doing it not you.

How this is going to be achieved?? It can be achieved through meditations. Through awareness and consciousness. First you will have to be conscious of your body. Walking can be a meditation if you walk consciously. Sitting can be a meditation if you sit consciously. Once Buddha was sitting with his disciples and his hand moved suddenly across his face. Buddha closed his eyes for a moment and moved his hand again in the same way. His disciples asked him why he did this and he explained that a fly sat on his nose and impulsively his hand moved to remove it but since he was not conscious of the hand movement he moved his hand the second time in the same manner but this time in full consciousness.

Then you will have to be conscious of your mind and thoughts. Mind is a most unstable thing which does not stays where you are. When you are at home it is wondering in the market, and when you are in the market it is at your office, and when you are at your work it is at your home. It is also full of thoughts all the time. We do not realize it until we close our eyes and sit in silence. Only then we are aware how much thoughts are constantly going through our mind all the time. I suggest you to sit in silence and just be aware of yours thoughts. Don't be judgmental about them whether they are good or bad. Don't be affected by them and get irritated when they go on coming back. Just be a witness to the thoughts without any effort from your side. Be patient as it is going to take time but slowly slowly the thoughts will be lesser and lesser. Just remain there witnessing and let it happen on its own.

Then you will have to be conscious of your feelings. This can happen by living in the moment and being aware of our feelings. When I'm angry. When I'm sad etc etc.

Slowly and slowly as your witnessing grows you will start remaining in the middle - Detached - to unhappiness, to happiness, to suffering, to joy, to misery, everything. And when you become a complete witness, you will be the one with God and that day you will be absolutely - Detached.

“Bliss is a byproduct of consciousness. The more conscious you become, the more blissful you are.” - OSHO
